Review: Skin Food Black Sugar Cleansing Oil

 Description (from http://eng.theskinfood.com/):
The mineral-rich Brazilian black sugar in the cleansing oil leaves your skin moist after washing and perfectly removes the dense make-up.

How to Apply (from http://eng.theskinfood.com/):
Take a moderate amount of it on a dry hand and gently remove the make up. Then complete the cleansing by washing the face with cleansing foam.

My Thoughts:
I received this cleansing oil sample pack from hying of Korean Things, a site that sells a great variety of Korean beauty products online and they provide shipping to worldwide as well.
Back to the cleansing oil, this sample pack is enough for 3-4 uses on me.  I use it like any other cleansing oil, I apply and spread it evenly on my dry face, massage in, add a certain amount of water to emulsify it then rinse it off.
The first thing that I noticed when I first opened this sample pack was the scent, it has a citrus-y scent, something that I didn't expect. Don't get me wrong, I love citrus-y scent, but I never thought that black sugar will have this kind of scent or maybe it's just a synthetic fragrance.
I really like the texture, it has a thin and runny consistency so it's pretty easy to spread and massage in.
As for the cleansing power, for me it's pretty decent. It cleanses my face makeup pretty well but for waterproof mascara and eyeliner, it takes a bit more effort. But since I always use separate eye makeup remover, it doesn't really bother me.
After rinsing it off, I still feel that it leaves a little bit of residue on my skin so I still need to use a facial cleanser after using this cleansing oil which I don't mind since I always do double cleansing to make sure everything's off.
Sadly, I can't find the ingredient list for this cleansing oil on the sample pack nor on the official Skin Food site so I'm not sure what the ingredients are, of course beside the black sugar. Luckily though, it doesn't break me out :).
Overall, It's a good cleansing oil that's worth trying especially if you like citrus-y scent.

Here's the texture of the cleansing oil:
Before emulsifying.

After emulsifying.

Pros:
- Pleasant citrus-y scent
- Cleanses face makeup pretty well
- Thin consistency for easy application
- No breakout

Cons:
- a bit hard to remove waterproof eye makeup
- leave a little bit of residue

Rating: 3.5/5
Repurchase: Probably yes
(Since I love trying new products, I'll try other products before deciding to settle on this product :D)

Disclaimer: The product sample was sent to me for review purposes. I am not affiliated with the company. This is my honest opinion, product that works on me doesn't mean it works on you and vice versa.

Finished Products in August 2010

Skin Food Coffee Body Scrub
First thing first, this body scrub smells exactly like coffee! I almost wanted to taste it everytime I used it :D. I feel that it made my skin really smooth afterward and it didn't dry out my skin. But for this small tub of scrub, it can be quite expensive if you buy it outside Korea.

Etude House Lip & Eye Remover
I've been using this for almost a year and feel really glad that I've finally finished it. It's a pretty good eye makeup remover but it took quite an effort to remove some waterproof makeups. Check out my review on this remover here.

Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
Finally I've finished this lipbalm! It took me months to go through this lipbalm. It's from Nic way back on last year. It feels and smells minty which I really love and I believe this lipbalm has made my lips chapped free, so thank you Nic! :D.

I'm going to Malaysia today! So as expected, I'll be offline for a few days. But I'll come back soon after my trip :D. Till next time!

A Piece of Me... in Mei 2010

A game hosted by Shirley of Notes from the Toothfairy

This month....

I like: that I've started to learn how to drive now! Hopefully by the end of this month I'll be able to drive to anywhere I want :D

I don't like: that I keep putting on weight! It's only been one month and I've gained 2 kg (4.4 lbs)... sigh...

I want you to know: that my hometown is really beautiful. Here's one of the shot that I took in my hometown :)

I've planned: to eat less now, i don't want end up gaining 10 kg (22 lbs) in just a few months.

I want to say to someone special: Mom, don't cook too much delicious foods please? You know that I can't resist them ;p. Nonetheless, I still love you <3

NOTD
Skin Food BR608
Another NOTD from me :), or I should call NOTM, LOL. Okay, I'll try to do my nails more than once in a month from now on :D. I really love this nail polish. It really is a perfect nude color for me. I love using it when I don't want to be distracted by my nails color. The staying power is just okay though, it started to chip in just 3 days. But still, I keep reaching for this nail polish. Btw, excuse my dry cuticles :p

Hope everybody had wonderful weekend and have a great week ahead :)

The Face Shop Haul

First of all, thank you so much for the greetings on my previous post. I really appreciate every single one of your greetings :) They totally made my day.

So on to the haul, I bought some stuffs from The Face Shop few days ago. I only got stuffs that I really need at the moment cause I have been in no shopping mood lately, just don't know why. hehe..

I have finished my Skinfood Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion and need a new makeup cleanser. I saw this Herb Day Cleansing Emulsion in Green Tea and the SA told me that it's good for oily skin, so without a doubt, I grabbed it. I just can't go anywhere far from the word 'tea' :D. I have used it a few times, it feels more lightweight than the Skinfood one and so far I like this.

Herb Day Cleansing Wipes
Saw this on the shelf, and just grabbed it. I need a cleansing wipes for my next travel trip. I haven't tried it though.

Fragrant Nail Enamel Remover - Pink
Read a good review about it from Anastasia, and my nail polish remover is finished, so i decided to try it. I have tried it a few times and like it too, but not too fond of the scent.

Post-Acne Nighttime Spot Eraser
Now, this is the one that I'm excited to get for. I remember going to The Face Shop a couple weeks ago to search for this but was disappointed that they didn't have it. And few days ago when I was going to pay for the stuffs above, I took a look around and saw this spot eraser, I immediately rushed over there and grabbed it, I almost ignored the SA that was going to tell me about this product, haha...I have only tried it for three times, haven't felt anything yet. Hopefully it really works to fade my acne scar as I've read a lot of great reviews about this product.

Actually I got a few reviews in my hand, but I'm too lazy to take picture of the stuffs that I'm going to review. Hopefully I can do it by this weekend :D. So, that's it for now. Have a great day everyone!

Reviews & Food Porn :)

Skin Food Buckwheat Loose Powder
Here is the review that Blair has requested... sorry for the delay, Blair.. :)

Description (from http://eng.theskinfood.com/):
This loose powder with its soft, fine particles offers a bloomingly radiant, flawless finish.
Buckwheat oil creates incredibly transparent, shine-free skin tone, with silky-smooth texture.
* Use:
After foundation, dap gently in following order: forehead→eyelids→cheeks→lips.
Press remaining residue gently under eyes.

My thought:
I love the packaging, but it's kinda bulky so it's not really convenient to bring it along... the texture is really smooth so it's easy to apply with. and the scent is really nice.. this loose powder doesn't really have much coverage but the oil-control is really good.. there's a big difference between when i'm using this loose powder and when i'm not.. my face is less oily with this loose powder..

Rating: 4.5/5
Repurchase: Yes! i love this even if it's my first ever loose powder!

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara

Description (from http://www.yslbeautyus.com/):
An intense look in a single stroke with our must-have industry leading mascara.

The secret? The triple-film complex. A coating film for intensity, a conditioning film for curve, a fixing film for long-lasting effectiveness. Even the brush applicator combines nylon fibers of varying diameters for volume enhancement as never before.

My thought:
When i first open the cap, i immediately fell in love with the scent.. the scent is really nice.. and even when i've applied it on my lashes, it's still there.. but it's kinda hard to apply, or probably it's just me cause i don't usually use mascara.. although it claims for the volume effect, it doesn't really volume up my lashes, instead it does good on lengthening.. here's how it looks on my eye (sorry for the crap picture, i've tried to take it on different ways but i still don't know how to take a nice picture of my eyes :p)

Rating: 4/5 (because of the scent and the lengthening effect!)

Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara

Description (from http://www.covergirl.com/):
Get a blast of bold, volumized lashes - rain or shine! LashBlast's patented volume-boosting formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max-out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big lash look.
- Instant volume and fullness
- Resists water and smudging
- Hypoallergenic and suitable for lens wearers

My thought:
I got this from Nic :) it's kinda bulky but it's easier for me to hold than the YSL mascara.. and it's easy to apply.. as it claims it doesn't smudge easily and really good on volumizing lashes.. my eye lashes are thicker with this.. but the only thing that bugs me is it's kinda hard to apply on the lashes in the corner of my eyes..
here's how it looks on my eye lashes:

Rating: 4/5

Comparison between YSL and CG mascara:

Which one do you think is better? i like the volumizing effect from CG but also like the lengthening effect from YSL..

Food Porn!! :D
I went out with my bf yesterday and had lunch in this local restaurant called "Bakmi GM"

this is what bf had.. their signature..

and here's mine.. this portion is very big.. i can't even finish it..

fried dumpling.. very yummy with it's tomato sauce..

Daily Makeup Routine tag by Nic from Spoiled Rotten, this is a real late tagged.. so sorry Nic..

Daily Cleanser:

- The Face Shop Green Tea Foam Cleanser: i like this cleanser, i can feel my face really clean right after i use this
- Skin Food Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion: my face make up remover, don't hate it but don't really like it too.. i don't think it cleans my makeup thoroughly

- Skin Food Kiwi Yogurt Mask Wash Off: i like this, i think it brightened up my skin
- Skin Food Rice Mask Wash Off: just used it a few times, but i like that the beads are so small, so it doesn't feel rough on my skin

Daily Skin Care:

- The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Facial Toner: my daily toner, but i'm considering of switching this when i finish this cause it just did what any other toner did to me
- Skin Food Tea Tree Essence: i don't hate it and like it too, i used to like this essence on the first few times i use it, but later i feel my face oilier after using this.. i have already finished it though..
- Skin Food Peach Sake Pore Serum: i want to love this product as i saw so many raves about it, but it caused me breakout.. i'm thinking of letting it go.. anyone?

- Red Earth Lip Gloss
- Random Eye Lashes Curler
- Skin Food Sugar Bloom Shadow Box
- NYX Mosaic Powder
- Maybelline Mini Brush Mascara
- Maybelline XXL Volume+ Length Mascara
- The Body Shop Eye Definer
- Skin Food Black Bean Eye Liner Pen: i really don't recommend this, this eye liner is suck cause it smudges easily..

As you can see, i don't own much makeups, cause i usually don't use them.. but now i wanna get more cause i'm getting to do makeup more now!! and i'm waiting for my new skincare package to come..

So, for this tag i'm tagging everyone who haven't done this tag! please do this tag =)

Skin Food Haul

I'm back to Jakarta!! Just got back yesterday. And today when i went to a shopping mall, passed by a Skin Food outlet, i can't resist to get in there to buy a few things. So, here is my purchases:

(left to right)
- Peach Sake Pore Serum
- Apple & Tea Tree Body Mist
- Black Bean Nose Patch
- Rice Mask Wash Off
- Coffee Body Scrub
- Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion
- A free Notebook
- 5 Fresh Juice Toner Sample
- 5 Fresh Juice C Serum Sample

Actually i was just going to buy Rice Mask, Coffee Body Scrub and a facial cleansing. But when i saw the other things, i just couldn't resist to hold back =p . Luckily i forgot to browse their sunscreens or else i had to fork even more money on these. When i browsed their facial cleansing, I was torn on buying between Seaweed Cleansing Emulsion and Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion, both are for oily skin, as i told the SA that i couldn't decide to choose which one, she said if i have blemish problem i can choose the Tea Tree or else the Seaweed. So i decided to get Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion instead of Seaweed Cleansing Emulsion.

Back at home, i immediately try Tea Tree Cleansing Emulsion to remove my makeup, the texture is a bit thick but not too greasy, and I'm quite satisfied with it because it does remove my makeup thoroughly.

Then after shower, i sprayed Apple & Tea Tree Body Mist on my chest and my back, it has nice apple scent and it felt cool on my skin. It is said that it can minimize blemishes on chest and back, probably i have to use more often to see the result.

I'll do the review on the other products next time =)

Skin Food Wish List =)

After previous post, i didn't purchase any other Skin Food products. It's because i am currently back at my home in Bintan (I did all my purchases in Jakarta). Even when i went to Singapore, i didn't buy any because i heard that Singapore's Skin Food is way more expensive than Jakarta's. But still, i wish to buy more products from Skin Food. My list is getting longer and longer... Hehe.. Here's my wish list:

Pomegranate Ferment Whitening Sleeping Mask (Whitening Skin Care)
Peppermint Pore Diet Peel-Off Mask
Rice Mask
Black Sugar Mask
Black Sesame Seed Hot Mask
Black Bean Nose Pack
Chlorella Nose Clear Patch
Apple & Tea Tree Body Clean Mist
Coffee Body Scrub
Grape Seed Oil Wrinkle Neck Cream
Peach Sake Ice Mist
Peach Sake Sunscreen Lotion SPF32 PA++ (UV Protection)
Broccoli Sunscreen Cream SPF42 PA+++ (UV Protection)
Tomato Sunscreen Cream SPF 36 PA++ (UV Protection)
Aloe Sunscreen Essence SPF27 PA++ (UV Protection)
Green Coffee Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++
Salmon Brightening Eye Range
Tomato Whitening Spot Serum (Whitening Skin Care)
Sugar Bloom Shadow Box #4 Shine Black Bloom

Wow.. i didn't realize it will be this much :p. And i don't think i can get it all in Jakarta's outlets. Probably i have to purchase them from a Spree.
It's too bad that my sister will not have her honeymoon in Korea, if she does, i can ask her to buy them all for me... hehe..

*Update* (August 10th 2009):
Just bought some Skin Food products and had fulfilled a few items from my wish list =)

*Update* (August 14th 2009):
I've bought my eye shadow!!

Skin Food Lover!

Recently i fell in love with Skinfood, a Korea brand skincare and makeup. My first ever Skinfood product is Kiwi Yogurt Mask. When i went to a Skinfood outlet and asked the SA there about face masks, she recommended me Cucumber Mask, Kiwi Yogurt Mask and Banana Yogurt Mask. As i don't really like the smell of banana so i just have to choose the 2 lefts. After reading those products' detail, i chose Kiwi Yogurt Mask because it said it can minimize pores (which i really need).
I used this product thrice, and quite like it because it is comforting and soothing my skin. About the pore minimization, i haven't feel the effect yet.
After this mask, i browsed on net to see another Skinfood product, and immediately interested with their BB Cream, esp. Aloe BB Cream (heard it is good on oil control). So i went to the Skinfood outlet again, and bought it along with Buckwheat Loose Powder and Tea Tree Essence. I bought the Buckwheat LP to apply after BB Cream. While Tea Tree Essence, it is because the SA saw that i have acne problem and introduce me to use Tea Tree Toner, but as i am using Bodyshop's Tea Tree Oil Toner, i chose to buy Tea Tree Essence. Actually at that time i was interested with Tea Tree Emulsion too, but as i already bought 3 stuffs, i chose to buy at another time.

You can see those products' detail on the links above. After using Aloe BB Cream, i immediately fall in love with it. It has a nice smell and easy to blend with my skin (i use shade #1), and the best part of it is it can cover my acne scar!!! Absolutely LOVE it. Buckwheat LP also has a nice smell, although it goes well with my skin tone (#23 Natural Beige), i am not crazy about it. Maybe it is because i already have so much love with the BB Cream :p.
As for Tea Tree Essence, i love it too. When i apply it on the night, the next morning my face not as oily as i used to be. And my acne scar seems faded. So i definetely will continue using it.

After i read this, i think i won't consider Tea Tree Emulsion anymore. She (i assumed) said it ways too creamy and not suitable for oily skin. So, i will find other Skinfood's products to add on my list. Next time i will post my Skinfood wishlist :)
